Private trip diary and visited camps
When you save diary entries or mark camps as visited, these records are stored privately under your signed-in CampBase account. Saved diary entries may include your notes, stops, saved GPS route and photos. Diary photos are resized for upload and served only through an authenticated request for your own account. Unsaved drafts and live GPS recording stay on their device. Deleted diary entries are hidden from synced devices and remain restorable in the website diary. The Android diary and visited-map sync changes require the next compatible app update; a website deployment does not change an app bundle already awaiting review.
Website visit counts
We count approximate website visits to understand how often the website is opened. A short-lived random value in your browser groups refreshes and return visits within 30 minutes. The server stores a protected retry receipt temporarily and keeps aggregate daily and total counts. Expired receipts are removed during routine administration. This counter does not store your name, email, account identifier, IP address, browsing history or precise location. It does not identify unique people. Counts are available only to the CampBase owner.
This website
The public homepage and event pages can be viewed without an account. Paid website access uses your CampBase Firebase account and a server-side access record. Saved camps, saved trips, packing checklists and shopping lists are stored privately in your CampBase Firebase account. Use the same account on each platform. Trips and lists require the Android account-sync update; earlier app versions keep these locally. Unsaved website trip drafts remain in this browser, separated by signed-in account. Staying signed in stores a refresh credential on your device; it does not store your password.
Website payments are planned through Stripe at $4.99 AUD once. Checkout is disabled on this preview. When enabled, Stripe will handle payment card details. CampBase will store the account identifier, checkout and payment references, payment status, amount, currency and access entitlement. Refunds and payment disputes may affect paid access. Contact support for payment and access questions.
Existing Android app buyers may request included website access. An owner must verify the Google Play purchase before linking access to a CampBase account. Order references and verification notes are kept privately for this purpose. We do not automatically treat signing in or entering an order reference as proof of a purchase.
Website hosting and account requests are processed by Google Firebase. Google Fonts serves the website fonts. Stripe will process website checkout when enabled. The app-specific policy follows below.
Who we are
CampBase NSW is an Android app that helps campers and caravanners find free and paid campgrounds, dump points and facilities across New South Wales, and share information with other campers.
CampBase NSW is operated by an independent developer and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the New South Wales Government, any council, any national park authority, or any telecommunications provider.

The short version
- You can browse campgrounds, maps and guides without creating an account.
- We do not sell your data and use no behavioural advertising, third-party advertising SDKs, analytics or tracking software. The Business Noticeboard contains clearly labelled paid and sponsored business listings.
- Bird call recordings are analysed entirely on your phone and are never uploaded.
- Payment card details never reach us — Google Play handles all payments.
- You can delete your account and everything attached to it from inside the app at any time.
What we collect, and why
If you create a CampBase account
- Email address and password. Handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your password.
- Camper display name. Shown next to anything you post.
- Online status. A "last seen" timestamp so other campers can see who is available to message.
If you don't create an account
The app may sign you in anonymously so that features such as reading reviews work. That creates a random Firebase account identifier tied to the installation. It is not linked to your name or email. Clearing the app or uninstalling removes the identifier from the device, although the inactive random account identifier may remain in Firebase until routine service cleanup. It contains no name or email.
Things you choose to share
- Camp Chat posts, replies, group messages and private messages
- Campground reviews and camper photos
- Wildlife sightings, water refill points and camper meet-ups you create (water refill points include the coordinates of the point you are reporting)
- Community event submissions
- Reports you make about other people's content
Anything you post publicly is visible to other CampBase users. Treat it as public.
Your private lists (account holders only)
So they survive a new phone, the following are stored privately against your account and are readable only by you: saved campgrounds, packing lists, shopping lists, saved trails, your trip journal, and your app preferences.
Location
Location is used only while you are using a feature that needs it — showing where you are on the map, finding campgrounds, fuel or facilities near you, and retrieving local weather. Your coordinates are sent to the mapping and weather services listed below while those features are in use.
We do not track your location in the background, and we do not store a history of where you have been. Coordinates are only saved when you deliberately submit something tied to a place, such as reporting a water refill point.
Microphone
The Bird Sound Identifier records a short clip when you press the record button. The clip is analysed on your phone using a model downloaded to your device. Audio is never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and the recording is discarded once the analysis finishes.
Photos
The app accesses a photo only when you pick one to attach to a review, a campground, a chat message or a business listing. Those images are uploaded and stored so they can be displayed to other campers.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token for your device is stored so we can deliver Camp Chat alerts. It is deleted when you delete your account.
Business advertising
If you submit a business to the Business Noticeboard we collect the business name, ABN, contact name, business email, contact phone, location or service area, website or social link, description and photo you provide. Approved listings are published publicly in the app.
Payments
Business listing plans and the optional Pinned Feature add-on are billed by Google Play as subscriptions. We never receive your card number, billing address or any payment credential. We store the Google Play purchase token, order ID, product or add-on purchased, subscription and entitlement state, and renewal or expiry date. We use these records only to confirm payment, publish the selected listing, place a paid pinned listing in its purchased position, and remove paid benefits when the subscription ends.
Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Location (precise and approximate) | Your position on the map, nearby campgrounds and facilities, local weather |
| Microphone | Bird Sound Identifier only. Processed on your device. |
| Photos and media | Attaching a photo you have chosen |
| Notifications | Camp Chat messages and replies |
| Internet | Maps, weather, community features and updates |
Every one of these is optional. Declining a permission disables only the feature that needs it; the rest of the app keeps working.
Who else handles your data
We use the following services, and only for the purposes shown. We do not sell or rent your information to anybody.
| Service | What it receives |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging) | Your account, your posts and photos, your private lists, push tokens |
| Google Maps and Google Places | Map requests and, while in use, your approximate location |
| Google Play Billing | Business listing and optional Pinned Feature subscription purchases |
| Visual Crossing Weather | Coordinates for the forecast you asked for |
| OpenFreeMap | Offline map tile requests |
The Bird Sound Identifier model is downloaded once from a public repository. No information about you is sent with that download.
Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy policy.
Where your data is stored
Primary CampBase NSW database, file and account-deletion services are configured in Google's Australian infrastructure. Google authentication, messaging, Play Billing, subscription verification and other supporting providers may process requests or metadata outside Australia.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything attached to it — kept until you delete your account.
- Anonymous installation identifiers — removed from the device when you uninstall or clear app data. The unlinked server identifier may remain until routine service cleanup.
- Public posts, reviews and photos — removed when you delete them or delete your account, and may be removed sooner by a moderator if they breach the community rules.
- Payment and subscription records — kept for as long as Australian record-keeping obligations require, even after a listing ends.
Deleting your account and your data
If you no longer have the app installed, you can request deletion at any time: Request account deletion, or email v87677@gmail.com from the address on your account. Requests are actioned within 30 days.
You may also ask for a copy of the data held about you, or ask us to correct it, using the same address.
Children
CampBase NSW is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. The community messaging features are restricted to signed-in adult accounts.
Security
Access to your private data is enforced by server-side security rules, so your saved lists and private messages cannot be read by other users. Data is encrypted in transit. No system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects you, the updated version will be published here with a new date at the top, and significant changes will be noted in the app.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Website browser approval
Website access allows up to two approved browsers per account. We email an approval code when you request access from a new browser. Codes expire after 10 minutes and failed attempts and email requests are limited. We keep a browser name, approval and last-use dates, and a protected browser identifier to enforce this limit. Codes are stored as protected digests. Approved browsers expire after 90 days without use; you can remove them from My account. The owner can revoke website sessions from the admin dashboard. These controls do not sign you out of the Android app.
Maps, community and optional tools
The website uses the same Firebase account, Camp Chat profile, community posts, private conversations and live game services as the Android app. Community and live-game access require confirmation that you are 16 or older and acceptance of the displayed community terms. While you are active in Camp Chat, your display name, avatar and recent activity time are shared in the online roster. Online status expires after two minutes without an update. Public posts are visible to eligible community members; private conversation access is limited to participants by the existing account rules.
Maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap. Location is requested only when you choose a location button. If you request local weather, your selected coordinates are sent to CampBase’s existing weather service. Directions open in Google Maps when you choose that link.
Ask & See and Camping Host send your submitted questions and relevant conversation context to the app’s existing AI service. Host conversations may be saved by that service in your account. Clearing the website’s local conversation clears this browser’s copy. Device level readings stay in the browser.
Website saved trips, packing and shopping lists and saved camps use private per-account cloud storage shared with the Android account-sync update. Refresh the relevant website list to load the latest changes from another device. Existing browser-only data can be imported explicitly. Appearance, home shortcuts, device permissions, offline downloads and reminder settings remain device-specific. Practice games are not offered on the website. Live Dice, Bingo and Camp Coins use the existing server records; practice BlockPop does not award coins. Business Spotlight displays information that CampBase administrators have already published. Advertising review requests store the business and contact details you submit privately for CampBase review. The form displays the existing advertising terms and privacy policy before submission. Selected weather locations and a ten-minute weather cache are stored in this browser.
When you submit a campground photo on the website, it is resized as a JPEG in your browser and uploaded to the same Firebase gallery as the Android app, with your display name and caption. The campground gallery shows approved photos; your own pending submissions are visible to you. Up to five submissions per account per campground are supported. Use the Android app to manage or remove existing submissions.
